Volunteer Day with PPL

On September 22, 2022 volunteers from PPL came to help us clean the Community Building Center. As the seasons change, it’s good to keep our space clean. On average, we get 50-70 people through our space during center hours which is plenty of foot traffic. Our regular cleaning procedures include vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, wiping down tables and countertops, but often time we don’t have time to do that deep cleaning that’s needed.

We are grateful to the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley for arranging the PPL volunteers to come and carpet clean, wipe down walls, pressure wash the porch, and weed our flower beds. We had a great group of volunteers that got the work done quick. Thank you! #pplvolunteers #ppldayofvolunteering

Chair Yoga is Back!

We are always grateful to our college interns who come from various schools to lead activities for our community members. Whether it’s art therapy, chair yoga, hair cuts, or even taking blood pressure, we appreciate everyone’s gifts and how they can be used to benefit the community! We’re happy to have chair yoga back at the community center, thanks to our fabulous Muhlenberg College students!

Art Therapy and Art Show

This summer we had some great art therapy interns from Cedar Crest University who worked with our community members. We are thankful for interns and volunteers who are willing to use their skills and expertise to provide care and healing to our community members.

Art therapy provides a safe way to approach traumatic memories through the use of symbols and images. It integrates both the left and right side of the brain which helps individuals to express emotions, memories, trauma, logic and creativity; all while using your body.

At the end of the summer, we held an art show to display what our community members created!

Thank you First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union!

RCI has received a $8,000 grant from the First Commonwealth “WE Thrive LV” Foundation Fund of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation. These funds will be used to support our Community Building Center, which serve as a safe, welcoming, daytime space where our most vulnerable neighbors can find support, connection, and friendship. We continue to be grateful for unexpected partners that want to collaborate and do good in our community!
